So, for Memorial Day Wknd this year the girls and I decided to take a little mother/daughters road trip out to Chandler AZ, to visit my friend Candace and her family for the weekend. And what a blast that was. It was definitely worth the 5.5 hr drive there and the almost 7 hr drive home (my first road trip btw, without any other adult to accompany me).
We started out at 8am Saturday morning, but of course I had a screw in my tire so before we could venture out, we had to go to Goodyear to have that patched up...(thanks babe for doing that for me). 9am...and on the road to Arizona!! It was a nice drive not too bad, just had to watch my usual speeding lol, the girls did homework, played with their DS and watched movies and of course bickered. We took a few breaks at rest s
tops...even saw a few interesting road signs lol. And of course as you drive into Arizona you get presented by those horrible photo enforcement radar cameras for speeding, which btw, gave me too much anxiety (being So-Cal native, some of you can understand that)...oh and talk about timing, just as I exited Candace's exit toward her house, my gas light goes on...perfect!!

Ok, so we arrive at Casa de van Rensburg, and let me tell you what a gorgeous house it is!!! It was love at first sight for me, (but no not enough to leave Cali for, sorry I'm here probably for life everyone). The girls and Kayla hit it off right away!! Candace was the perfect host preparing a margarita as soon as we step in the door...now that is Love!!! So we all get ready for the pool and head outside to the goreous patio. Candace and I chatted, drank and ate Chips n Guacamole/salsa while the girls swam. Later on Clive threw some yummy chicken and veggies on the grill (took home the recipe to that one) and we watched the Suns vs Laker game. And sad to say I didn't make it through the entire game, after driving, and drinking, and food and more drinking, and talking and more drinking...it was lights out for me lol.
During which, Candace, Clive and Emalee put the two little ones to sleep (Candace has a beautiful singing voice, she sang them lullaby's...awww), and hung out for awhile, they played pool and chit chatted, during which Candace and Clive proprositioned Em by telling her if she gets up with the girls in the morning and just helps keep an eye on them (and the 2 other kids who would later come over) they would give her $40...and of course she accepted the deal lol. $ Cha-Ching $
Next morning, we were all ready for round 2 by 10:30am!! Outside enjoying the hot Arizona sun, we even got in the water for a bit. Clive had a photoshoot that morning, so it was just us girls for a few hours. After he returned, Candace and I went and bought the kids a slip n slide, which I never did try out like I wanted to lol.
About 3pm or so they had friends Carrie and Paul come over with their son and daughter (5 and 6). The kids all took well to eachother and had a blast, and Emalee did her job as promised. We BBQ'd, drank and enjoyed the afternoon. Emalee even helped cut up the fruits and veggies (Gawd, I'm blessed to have such a great kid, lol just sayin') Us mama's got in the pool with the kids for a bit and Carrie played some fun games with them...they were really great, friendly people. I enjoyed myself. I was sad that the day had flown by soo quickly and before long it was time for their guests to leave and we had to wind down and prepare for our early departure the following morning. And believe me it did not take the girls very long to fall asleep after being out in the sun and pool for 10hrs straight, they welcomed the idea of sleep lol. The girls did not want to leave just yet, tried to convince me to stay one more day, believe me if I didn't have work on Tuesday I totally would have...
The next morning, we made our journey home starting at 8am (the drive seemed longer this time around), we stopped a few times to rest and eat lunch, the sat in traffic for about 30-40min once we got into the Palm Springs(civilization area), then went to see Daddy at work before we arrived at home about 3:10pm. Thank you Candace, Clive and Kayla for a great and memorable weekend!!! xoxo
